Dr. William "Bill" David Findlay

Dr. William "Bill" David Findlay, 74, of McCalla, AL, went to be with the Lord on October 14, 2023 after an eight month battle with glioblastoma. He leaves behind his loving wife of 52 years, Betty Brown Findlay, their two sons, Lance (Amanda) and Kyle (Luciana) Findlay, and five grandchildren: Drew, Mason, Reid, Clara, and Vivian. He was preceded in death by his parents, Alexander Nelson Findlay and Geraldine Phillips Findlay. Bill was born on November 26, 1948, in Birmingham, AL, and grew up in Fairfield Highlands. He attended Rutledge elementary and middle school and was a proud graduate of Hueytown high school. He earned his bachelor’s degree in chemistry from the University of Alabama and completed dental school at The University of Alabama School of Dentistry in 1975, where he honed his skills and passion for dentistry. Upon graduating, he served in the Air Force as a dentist for two years before starting his own practice for the majority of his 47-year career. Bill was a hardworking and passionate individual who deeply cared for his patients. He was actively involved in his profession and served in leadership roles with the Alabama Dental Association, Birmingham District Dental Society, the Birmingham Society of Advanced Dentistry, among others. Bill and his family were members of Fairfield Highlands Presbyterian Church – the same church his parents raised him in and the same one he raised his children in. He had a zest for life and enjoyed spending quality time with his friends. He had a quick wit and a quirky sense of humor. Bill was also an avid cyclist and triathlete, and he enjoyed competing and pushing himself to his limits. Bill was a devoted fan of Alabama football, and he was actively involved in the Red Elephant Club, First and Ten Club, among a variety of other organizations that supported the team and University. Bill's legacy will live on through the memories shared by those who knew and loved him. His dedication to his profession, his love for his family and friends, and his passion for his hobbies will be remembered fondly. He will be greatly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him. His family is grateful that he is no longer in pain and has the joy of being in his new heavenly body. The family invites you to join celebrating Bill's life at a memorial service on Friday, October 20th at McCalla Memorial Funeral Home. Viewing will begin at 1:00 PM and the service starts at 2:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charitable organization of your choice in his honor. A private burial at Alabama National Cemetery will be held at a future date.
