Charles L. Cleckler

Charles L. Cleckler, age 89, of McCalla, Alabama, passed away peacefully on January 28, 2025, after a courageous battle with heart failure. Born on June 1, 1935, Charles was the son of Robert Gaston Cleckler, Sr. and Willie D. Cleckler, both of whom preceded him in death. He was the beloved husband of Jeanette Cleckler for 69 years. Together, they raised a loving family that includes their children: Charles Ray (Sheila), Teresa (Jimbo), and Larry (Angie). He was a proud and devoted grandfather to his grandchildren: Keith (Lindy), Aaron (Jordan), Angela (Louis), Stephanie (Tony), Adam (Tiffany), Justin (Allyson), and Jarred (Destiney), as well as a cherished great-grandfather to Austin(22), Ryder(18), Lailah(18), Molly(15), Christopher(14), Chloe(13), Aiden(11), Jax(10), Emerson(10), Blakely(10), Rayna(8), Easton(3months), Mercy (21) and Eve (8). Charles served with honor as a paratrooper in the 82nd Airborne Division at Fort Bragg, North Carolina, and was also a dedicated member of the National Reserve. His military service was a testament to his courage and commitment to his country, and he was proud of his time in uniform. A man of deep faith, Charles was a long-time member of Grant Street Baptist Church, where he made lasting connections with friends and fellow worshippers. He also shared his love for music as the founder of The Embassy Quartet, bringing people together through song for over 50 years. Professionally, Charles spent much of his career in the electrical field, retiring as an Electrician Supervisor at Jefferson County Environmental Services. His work ethic, kindness, and dedication left a lasting impact on everyone who had the privilege of working with him. Charles was preceded in death by his brothers, Robert Cleckler Jr., Johnny Buck Cleckler, and William Roy Cleckler, and his sisters, Lillian Glazner and Annie Pearl Cleckler. He is survived by his brother, Jim O'Dell Cleckler (Paula). Charles was a devoted family man, whose love for his wife, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren knew no bounds. His legacy of service, love, and faith will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. He will be greatly missed by his family, friends, and all whose lives he touched. A visitation will be held Wednesday, February 5, 2025 from 10 AM until service time at 11 AM at McCalla Memorial Funeral Home. A committal service will be held on Wednesday, February 5, 2025 with Military honors at 2 PM at Alabama National Cemetery in Montevallo, Alabama.
