Mr. James Robert Hollingsworth Jr.

Hollingsworth, James Robert (Bob), age 78, passed peacefully from this life to his heavenly home on Tuesday, January 21, 2014, to join his parents, Robert and Ruth Hollingsworth, his mother and father -in-law, Hattie and B.W. Birdsong, his brothers-in-law, Don Birdsong and Gary Farrar, along with many aunts, uncles, and cousins. He grew up in the Angel Station and Bynum Alabama communities and graduated from Oxford High School where he continued to have numerous close friendships among his classmates. He always looked forward to their high school reunions and the opportunities to renew those special bonds of his youth. He was a dedicated Christian and an active member of Lakeside Baptist Church, where he filled many voluntary positions. He was always someone who could be counted on to "stay the course" with anything he undertook in his church or professional life. He served honorably in the United States Air Force. He was an alumnus of Auburn University in the school of Engineering, and a member of Delta Chi Fraternity while there. His career path led him into the field of Computer Systems Management and ultimately into the technological world of Telecommunications, where he served in every official capacity in the Alabama and Southeastern Telecommunications Associations. He earned many professional awards during his career and was a member of numerous professional organizations associated with his profession. He was a retiree from Blue Cross and Blue Shield and SouthTrust/Wachovia. Bob had a love for woodworking and could make anything from craftsman style furniture, bird houses, and creative country pieces that he often shared with special friends. He could often be found in his shop working on a project for his wife to use in the Kindergarten Ministry at Lakeside. He was a leader in the Royal Ambassadors Mission Group at Lakeside and was instrumental in making the first race car track to be used by the young boys there. He was also a dedicated servant to the missions of "Carpenters for Christ," helping plant new churches and other Christian facilities in Alabama and surrounding states. Bob was a wonderful husband, loving father, devoted grandfather, uncle, brother, and friend! He was lovingly known as "Daddy Bob" to his grandchildren. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, June Birdsong Hollingsworth, his sons, Todd (Leslie) and Brent, (Robin) and his six precious grandchildren, Ryan, Blake, Jordan, Reece, Riley, and Cole, his brother, Tom Hollingsworth, sister, Pat Farrar, brother-in-law, Rex Birdsong (Barbara) sister and brother-in-law, Janice Welch (Raymond), many nieces, nephews, relatives, and special friends. Bob was known by his family and friends for his gentle spirit and dignified presence, his impeccable manners, his loving kindness and willingness to help others in their time of need. His moral qualities and ethical standards, and the abundant love he had for his family were evidenced throughout his life. "Mr. Bob" as he was known by close friends and neighbors, especially little children, could "fix" anything and was often called upon to lend his expertise in this service ministry. If Bob declared anyone a "friend", it was a friendship for life. Even with his lengthy illness, Bob would be the first to say that he has been blessed. A celebration of Life service will be held at Lakeside Baptist Church at 2865 Old Rocky Ridge Road, at 12:00 pm on Friday, January 24, 2014. The family will receive friends from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm in the church Atrium prior to the service. Burial will be at Rose Hill Memorial Gardens in Tullahoma, Tennessee with a graveside service to be held at 12:00 pm on Saturday, January 25, 2014. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in care of Duke Moss, (Administrator), Bethesda Memorial Church, 515 Highland, Pulaski, TN 38478. A special thanks to Comfort Keepers and Amedisys Hospice for their wonderful and loving teams of caregivers, especially Melody, Velvet, Curtis and Jeremy.
