Joshua Caleb Simmons

Joshua Caleb Simmons, 37, of Bessemer, AL, passed away Friday, October 13, 2023. Josh was born in Birmingham, Alabama. He grew up in West Blocton and graduated from West Blocton High School in 2005. He earned his Associate’s degree at Shelton State Community College and majored in History at The University of Alabama. He worked his way through college as an apprentice plumber, turning his profession into a career as a Journeyman. He went to work at Spire in 2020 as a Construction Specialist, his most recent position as a Serviceman. Josh was preceded in death by his grandfather, Thomas J. Simmons; grandmother, Billie Allen; grandmother, Bobbie Jean Jones Keith; and stepfather John Hackimer. Josh is survived by his wife, Kellen Elizabeth Ledlow Simmons; his daughter Ellie Cay Stockton; his mother, Deborah “Debbie” Hackimer; his father, Tommy Simmons; his grandfather Ronnie Keith; his siblings, ShaVaugh Johnson (Daryl), Timothy Jacob “TJ” Simmons (Janine), John Hackimer, Jody DeForrest (Geoff), Michelle Gioai (Veto), Jennifer Johnson (Kenneth); his nieces and nephews, Makayla Simmons, Hunter Johnson, Katie Johnson, Trenton Simmons, Brooke Simmons, John Simmons; and numerous in-laws, aunts and uncles, cousins, and friends. Josh and Kellen married in Destin, Florida in 2017. He was a loving and supportive husband. Josh and Kellen were each other’s best friend and loved spending their days together. When Kellen and Josh married, he became an instant dad. Josh really identified with being a family man and took his role as father very seriously. He and Ellie Cay had a special bond and were very close. He was her biggest supporter and was always present at her activities and performances and served as “cheer dad” front and center, which leads to Josh’s competitive spirit. Josh loved to engage in family games, always entertaining everyone in his attempts to be the winner. He was an avid Alabama football fan and was always outdoors enjoying kayaking, fishing, hunting, and golfing. Josh spent many summers on the lake with family and friends and one of his favorite pastimes was family trips to Disney World. Josh had a generous heart and a kind soul, often going out of his way to make others feel welcomed and loved. He was deeply cherished by his family and friends. Josh had a strong Christian Faith, attending The Station Church in Bessemer, Alabama.
