Roger Dale Smith

Roger Dale Smith began his life on June 14, 1951. He went to be with his Lord and Savior on March 1, 2026, at the age of 74. He is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Sherry Smith, his daughter Brandy Boyd (Chris) and his son Nicholas Smith (Mindy). He was blessed with 4 grandchildren; Jonas Smith, Collin Boyd (Miranda), Alyssa Thompson (Seth), Brennan Boyd, and 2 great-grandchildren; Henry Thompson and a great-granddaughter on the way. Additionally, he leaves behind 2 sisters; Rhonda Keister (Will) and Billie Jean Sturgill (Ronnie), a brother Cleve Adkins (Paula), and many nieces, nephews and loving family and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, Ada Belle Smitherman and Jake and Margaret Smith and his brothers, Steve and Mark Phelps. Roger loved God and he loved his family with all his heart. He always put others’ needs above his own and he selflessly gave of himself every day. He was a soft and gentle man, whose quiet strength and deep faith in the Lord shaped the lives of everyone who knew him. A devoted Christian, he lived out his beliefs, not just in words, but in actions, always ready to help anyone in need. He found joy in simple pleasures, especially watching the birds and spending some time outdoors. He had a special gift with children; they were naturally drawn to his kindness and patience. His presence and warm heart made others feel safe and loved. Roger worked as a coal miner until 1980 when he was injured in the mines. He served faithfully at Hepzibah Baptist Church as a deacon, Sunday School teacher, church van driver, and in many other capacities. He always took the initiative if something needed fixing or tending to. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered for his gentleness, generosity, and steadfast faith. His family is rejoicing in the fact that he has now received his complete healing, and they would like to express their deep appreciation to everyone who has supported and prayed for them during this time. Visitation will be held at Hepzibah Baptist Church in McCalla on March 5th, 2026 at 11am - 12:30 pm, with the service following. In lieu of flowers, a contribution may be made to Hepzibah Baptist Church Building Fund.
