Rosell H. Hood

On Thursday, November 22, 2018, Rosell Hannah Hood passed away at home in McCalla, at the age of 95 surrounded by her family. She loved deeply and greatly; her absence in this world leaves a void unspeakable. May all who knew and loved her strive to fill it with the good and light that came from her heart- a reflection of Jesus who guided her words and deeds. A devoted and loving mother, Rosell was preceded in death by her mother, Pearl Donaldson; father, Cullinous Hannah; two brothers; Max Hannah and Sam Hannah; and sons Johnny Hood, Troy Hood and granddaughter Somer Hood. She was very proud of her large family and is survived by daughter in law Jeannie Hood and 5 children, CR (Donna) Hood, Linda (Jackie) Austin, Gordon (Vicki) Hood, Rick Hood, and Patty (Louis) Moore. Rosell had 15 grandchildren- Dennis (Sheila) Hood, Brian (Christie) Hood, Jimmy (Ramonia) Hood, Tim Hood, Rob (Marie) Hood, Sheila (Chuck) Blevins, William Austin, Kathy (David) Wint, Trina (Ted) Ludvik, Miranda Hood, Abigail (Tucker) Seal, Tricia (Robin) Foutz, Chase Moore, Justin (Heather) Moore, Ryan Moore, and a host of great and great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins. Though formally educated in Winston County through the 5th grade, Rosell achieved an honorary high school diploma at the age of 93 after decades of “independent study.” In her later years she became a prolific writer, filling many notebooks with her life stories and how God was always there for her. She was a regular columnist in her hometown newspaper, The Leaf, and had a chapter written about her in a published book. She left a spiritual legacy which was her calling. She was a faithful member of Bellview Baptist Church in McCalla. She loved attending, especially the Cream of the Crop small group, and attended regularly well into her nineties. Singer of songs, baker of biscuits, rocker of babies, teller of stories, maker of memories, Mama, Nanny and Grandmother, oh how you will be missed until we see you again. Visitation will be Tuesday, November 27, 2018 from 6-8 pm at McCalla Funeral Home, 4780 Letson Farms Pkwy, McCalla, AL 35111. Funeral service will be held Wednesday, November 28, 2018 at 1:00 pm at Bellview Baptist Church with viewing from 12-12:45 pm before the service with pastor Tim Hassler officiating. She will then be laid to rest at Valhalla Cemetery, 839 Wilkes Rd., Midfield, AL 35228. Memorials may be made to Bellview Baptist Church Youth Missions Fund or St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.
