Shaan Stephen Ryel

Shaan Stephen Ryel of Birmingham, AL passed away August 16, 2021 at the age of 41. He was a wonderful husband, father, son, and brother who was very much loved and will be greatly missed. Shaan will always be remembered for his love of family, his loyalty and his huge, kind heart. With a smile, Shaan was always willing to lend a hand, repair a flat tire for a stranger, and could fix just about anything that was broken. He was a hard worker with no task too big to tackle. He had a gift for gab and made a friend wherever he went. When growing up he thrived on family trips crisscrossing the U.S., experiencing the wonders of our beautiful country. Being with family, especially his wife and two boys, was key to his happiness. Shaan loved everything about nature and the outdoors, and he was passionate about sharing his love of both with his wife and sons. He found great reward in being involved in his children’s activities, including coaching baseball and spending countless hours at the ballpark cheering his boys on. He was a true family man. Shaan was born October 20, 1979 to Richard and Patricia Ryel of Hoover, AL. He was a 1998 graduate of Pelham High School and received his Bachelor of Science in Political Science from the University of Montevallo in 2002. He is survived by his loving wife, Sondra Fay Estes Ryel, and his precious children, Shaan Keegan Ryel and Kai Scott Ryel. He is survived by his parents, Richard and Patricia Ryel, and brother, Brandan Ryel. He is also survived by grandparents, Travis and Mary Schollian, along with a host of aunts, uncles, niece, nephews, and cousins. He is preceded in death by grandparents Lester and Chrystle Ryel, Jean McKenzie Schollian and Raymond McKenzie. At this sad time we know that Shaan would want us to remember the good. It is with this in mind that his family is holding a “Celebration of Life” on Friday, September 24th at the outdoor pavilion of Aldridge Gardens (3530 Lorna Rd, Hoover, AL 35216).
