William Clayton Sims

Loving Father, Grandfather, Great-Grandfather, Great/Great Grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend went to be with his Lord Jesus Christ on February 4th, 2021. Born in Bessemer,AL. April 29,1939 oldest twin of Joseph C. and Ila Mae Cooley Sims.He was a lifelong resident of the Bessemer and McCalla area. Graduated from McAdory High school class of 1958. Obtained Eagle scout status at Morgan Methodist church. He worked at Pullman Standard, Nashville Bridge, and Hugh Hudson Fabrications. Served as Fireman at the Bessemer Fire Department and for a short time operated Mac's Snacks in the Morgan area. His work was his passion. As owner and operator of Iron Masters he created many amazing gates, rails, and even an iron bed when requested. There was no job he couldn't do. He is preceded in death by parents Joseph C. Sims and Ila Mae Cooley Sims, brother Gary D. Sims, grandsons Jeffery Nabors Jr., Sean Sims, and son-in-law Thomas Lewis. He is survived by his soulmate of 20 years Suzie Mae Williams, his twin sister Brenda (Joe) Biddy, Children Marcia Smith Lewis, Sharon Kay Sims, Lori Ann Sims, William Joseph Sims. Step sons he highly respected, Randy (Dena) Crawford, Dennis (Tracie) Crawford, Leroy ( Heather) Moss. He was blessed with 12 grandchildren, 5 step-grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren, 3 step-great grandchildren, 1 great/great grandchild, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins. His legacy for his friends and family will always be a fresh pot of coffee to go along with a story or a solution to a problem no one else would dare to dream. That Papa who emptied out his change jar to give the kids "slushie" money after school, the man who never met a stranger, who would do for others to the detriment of himself. Who had so many wise cracks we couldn't count, such as if you need a helping hand you have two on the ends of your arms, or if you need a dollar make a dollar. The only thing that he loved near to his family was Alabama football. You could not talk to him while the game was on. Funeral Services will be held at Hephzibah Baptist Church, 20512 Hephzibah Church Road, McCalla, Al 35111 on Tuesday February 9th, 2021 at 1:00pm. Burial following at church.
