Alexander Saliba, Jr. a resident of McCalla, Alabama, passed away Wednesday, December 1, 2021. He was 82. Alex was born on September 28,1939, in Lepanto, Arkansas, to Josephine and Alexander Saliba, Sr. After spending his early childhood years in Arkansas, he moved with his family to Memphis, Tennessee, and graduated from Messick High School. Following graduation, he earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Tennessee. Specializing in agriculture and mining conveyor systems, Alex’s career took him all over the world. In 1969, he traveled to Rotterdam, Holland, for Bungee Corporation as a Project Engineer to construct the world’s largest grain elevator at that time located at Europoort in the Netherlands. Following his return to the United States as a Professional Engineer, he worked for several engineering firms including Continental Conveyor in Winfield, Alabama. Well respected in his field, Alex became a partner with the Koleman Conveyor firm in Birmingham, Alabama, before retiring. Alex met his beloved, Mary Katherine Herndon, in junior high school in 1953. Alex and Kathy were married for over 60 years until her passing on March 10, 2018. Together they raised four sons while living in Germantown, Tennessee, and Birmingham, Alabama. Surviving relatives include his sons, Robert A. Saliba and wife, Nancy of Boston, MA; Alexander Saliba, III and wife, DeDe of Huntsville, AL; Raymond C. Saliba and wife, Amy of Madison, AL; Richard G. Saliba and wife, Susan of Tuscaloosa, AL; eight grandchildren, Greg Saliba and wife, Lauren; Daisy Saliba, Morgan Saliba, Kathlene Saliba, Natalie Saliba, Alexander Saliba, Joe Saliba, and Ella Saliba; two great grandchildren, Ava Jane Saliba and John Saliba; two brothers, Raymond Saliba and wife, Betty of Alpharetta, GA; Robert P. Saliba of Memphis, TN.
