Betty S. Tuggle
September 17, 1924 - September 2, 2019
Betty Stalnaker Tuggle, born in Philippi, West Virginia on September 17, 1924, met her sweet Jesus face to face, just before midnight on September 2, 2019. Betty grew up and was educated in Ohio. She attended Kent State and Ohio State University. She met the love of her life, Earl Tuggle, while he was stationed at Kent State during the early days of World War II. During the war years Betty worked as a soda jerk and a Rosie the Riveter, all the while Earl served overseas. They were sweethearts through the war and were married in Ohio on April 26, 1947. They moved south to Birmingham, Alabama shortly thereafter. Betty started her forty-year career as a medical technologist and subsequently as the head of the Hematology Department in the main lab at Lloyd Noland Hospital in Fairfield, Alabama. She was a loving, gentle, kind, diligent, hard working wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend. She was the epitome of the Proverbs 31 Woman, working tirelessly and joyfully at all she did. She is predeceased by her mother, Georgia Dillard, her father Floyd Stalnaker, her stepfather Joel Dillard, her brother Robert Dillard, her beloved husband Earl Wayne Tuggle, her daughter Mary Tuggle Pitman, her son James Alan Tuggle, and her grandson Wesley Alan Tuggle. She is survived by her daughter Nancy Leigh Tuggle, her son Robert (Bobby) Earl Tuggle (Yvette), her five grandchildren (Rachel, Ben, Mallory, Chris and Ryan), her five great-grandchildren (Savannah, Sydney, Sabrina, Whitt and Carys), and nieces and nephews. The family is greatly indebted to her loving caregivers, Betty Smith and Rayedean Carver, whose dedicated service was invaluable. “Precious in the sight of the LORD is the death of his saints.” Psalms 116:15 Arrangements for Betty are as follows: visitation Friday, September 6, 2019 10-11am at McCalla Memorial Funeral Home, with service at 11am in the chapel.
