“I have brought glory to you here on earth by doing everything you gave me to do.” John 17:4 (CEV) Doris Evelyn Maxwell Kemp, age 97, of McCalla went home to be with the Lord on January 17, 2022. She was born on November 16, 1924 in Brookwood, Alabama. She is preceded in death by her parents, Daisy Curtis Eubanks Maxwell and Harvey L. Maxwell Sr., and her husband of 56 years, Otha Lee Kemp. She is survived by twin daughters, Cheryl Ann Nelson and Carol Lynn Kepfer (Larry); 5 grandchildren: Jason Burns, Stephen (Lisa) Burns, Ronnie Nelson, Brian (Laurey) Nelson, and Christy Nelson; 2 step-grandchildren: Quentin Kepfer (Lori) and Renae Clark (Dale); 9 great-grandchildren (Elijah Burns, Luke Burns, Hayden Burns, Isaac Burns, LeAnna Burns, Caleb Nelson, Luke Nelson, Lydia Nelson and Ethan Nelson, 10 step-great-grandchildren, and 4 step-great-great-grandchildren. Her family was the love of her life. She worked 25 years at the Forestdale Fire Department as Secretary. She was a long-time member of Hillview Baptist Church and loved her church family. The family would like to thank her wonderful caregivers, especially Sharon Haywood who was with her for four years and gave her unconditional love and care. Antonio Sanchez was her first CNA/caregiver and gave her special attention. Other caregivers were Yolanda, Renesha, Tracy, Michelle and more from Right at Home Birmingham and It Takes A Village. We appreciate the support and services of Kindred Hospice. A special thanks to Cahaba Ridge Retirement Community for giving her two wonderful years of activities and love. Most of all, we are so grateful for the numerous family and friends with their prayers, visits, food, love and support during her dementia illness. Visitation will be Thursday, January 20 at 10 AM and services at 11 AM at McCalla Memorial Funeral Home with Bro. Mark Barber officiating. Family is requesting that all wear a mask and social distance during visitation and funeral. Interment will be at Highland Memorial Gardens in Bessemer. Pallbearers will be Jason Burns, Stephen Burns, Ronnie Nelson, Brian Nelson, Quentin Kepfer, and Ryan Putman. The family request that In lieu of flowers donations be made to The Grace Place Ministries, 1630 Powder Plant Road SW, Bessemer, AL 35022. THE FAMILY REQUEST THAT MASK BE WORN AND PRACTICE SOCIAL DISTANCING.
