James Andrew Yearty Sr.
May 10, 1950 - November 23, 2020
James Andrew Yearty, Sr. (Jim), went to be with the Lord on November 23. He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Zelda Yearty. Jim is survived by his wife, Terri; son, Andrew; sister in law, Kay Seale; and “adopted” grandchildren, Camille and Reed Fulmer. Jim grew up in Birmingham. He attended Jones Valley High School. After graduating from high school, Jim joined the United States Army. He proudly served his country in Nuremburg, Germany, as a military police officer. Upon being honorably discharged from the Army, Jim went to work for the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department. While there he earned an award for his voluntary service with the Alabama Sheriff’s Youth Ranches and St. Clair County Boys Ranch. He retired from the Sheriff’s Department after 31 years of service. Jim loved his work and loved the many people that he worked with for so many years. After retiring from the Sheriff’s Department, Jim was employed with Kid One Transport. He enjoyed driving mothers and their children who did not have transportation to and from doctor visits. Jim was a member of Hunter Street Baptist Church where he served faithfully as an usher. Jim loved his church and loved the interaction with people that he experienced by being an usher. He was known for his jokes and his great sense of humor. Jim was a devoted husband and father. His greatest source of pride was his son, Andrew. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to The Shelby County Humane Society or the ASPCA.
