Jon Harvey Gould
December 18, 1942 - October 6, 2019
Jon was born to Harvey and Jane Gould on December 18, 1942 in Orlando, Florida. He grew up in Titusville, FL where his father, Harvey, planted in Jon a love of pine trees. He received his Bachelors of Civil Engineering and Masters of Geotechnical Engineering from the University of Florida. Before beginning his career, he enlisted as an officer in the US Army in 1969 and led a Corps of Engineers platoon in Vietnam. After returning from Vietnam in 1970, he began a 47 year career in geotechnical engineering working for Law Engineers, Rust Engineers, and finishing his career with Dan Brown & Associates. In June of 1989, he married Carol Clark Gould and together they blended two families into one and raised Kristin Gould Zovich (Tomislav), Christopher Gregory (Jodi) and Brian Gregory (Katie). He loved his seven grandchildren: Katie Ann, Ian, Maggie, Rhett, Talin, Charlie and Nora. He always enjoyed when one of them would come up and sit in his lap. He and Carol were involved in forestry land management as private land owners for over 30 years. Having 656 acres in the Tree Farm Systems, Jon frequently published in woodland magazines presenting the challenges for the private land owner. In 2006, Jon and Carol were awarded the Florida Tree Farmer of the Year. Then in 2018, Jon and Carol were awarded the South Regional Outstanding Tree Farmer of the Year. Most of all Jon loved the Lord Jesus Christ, his family and his friends. The family rejoices that Jon is now home to Jesus, has seen his Savior, and heard “Well done, good job Jon”. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, Oct. 9, 2019 from 10 am until 11:30 am at Briarwood Presbyterian Church Chapel with services to begin at 11:30 am. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Briarwood Presbyterian Church, Mercy Ministry in Birmingham AL.
