Roy Davis Grammer Sr.

October 15, 1927 - August 26, 2020

Roy Davis Grammer, Sr, began his life on October 15, 1927 and he went to be with the Lord on August 26, 2020 at the age of 92. He is preceded in death by his wife and “Love of his life” for 73 years, Florine Humphries Grammer, his son, Mitchell Grammer, his parents, Walter Grammer and Ruby Turner Grammer, and his 6 siblings, Leona Smith, Viola Dickey, Henry Grammer, Vader Venable, Jewell Jones, and Edelean Pennell. He leaves behind his children, Roy “David” Grammer (Jackie), Evelyn Pierce (Phil), Patricia Parker (Donald), Violet Jones (Ronnie), Sherry Smith (Roger) and Michelle Reid (Don). Additionally, he was blessed with 12 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren. Roy was a blacksmith by trade, working at Nashville Bridge Company for over 30 years. He could make almost anything and he used his skills to make the things he and his family needed, as well as many others in the community. He built their house by hand, one room at a time. He made tools, furniture, and many inventions for the kids to play on. He loved to garden and he was always using his tractor to lend others a helping hand. Through the years, Roy worked hard, provided for his family, and taught them the value of helping others and staying true to your word. He was a hard man, but he loved his family, and he showed them in his own gruff way and with his “whisker” hugs. He loved fast cars, especially Chevrolets, and he even raced in his younger years. On a Sunday, you knew you would find him listening to a NASCAR race on the radio. Although he didn’t go to church on a regular basis, he loved Gospel music and spent many a Friday night at the Tannehill Opry. At the age of 91, he finally gave his life to Jesus and it was a blessing to see the transformation that God made in his life in his final years. His prayers were simple and genuine. He repeated the scriptures he knew, “The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want.” Today, Roy is definitely not in want and he is rejoicing with his Lord, his precious wife, and many loved ones who have gone before him. The family would like to express appreciation to Comfort Care Hospice for all their help and guidance. Also, we appreciate so much the friends and family who shared their time to visit with Roy. He truly enjoyed spending time with each person who came. The service to honor the life of Roy Davis Grammer, Sr. will be held Monday, August 31, 2020 graveside at Hepzibah Baptist Church cemetery at 2:00 p.m. with Chaplain Brian Moon presiding. The family will accept flowers at the cemetery.
