Stanley Lee Challiss passed away in Birmingham, AL on May 13, 2020, at the age of 80. Stan is survived by his loving wife Suzanne. They were married in Atlanta, GA, in1968. Stan is lovingly remembered by his two children, Merrilee and Brad. He is survived by his brother Philip of Houghton Lake, MI and two granddaughters, Aubrey and Hannah, children of Brad and his wife, Janel. Stan was born in Webberville, MI on July 20th, 1939. He graduated from Webberville High School and earned his Bachelors of Arts degree in Communication from Michigan State University. Over many decades, Stan was employed by advertising firms in New York City, Chicago, Atlanta, Memphis and Birmingham, as copywriter, creative director and TV producer on many award-winning national and local campaigns. Stan loved to sing with his church choir and the Hoover Senior Center’s Songbirds. He loved singing Karaoke. Stan was an amateur hockey player, a weekend cowboy, an aficionado of Western lore, and an avid collector of Broadway musical soundtracks. He was a huge sports fan and loved to watch Michigan State Spartan football and basketball. Stan served as deacon at the First Baptist Church of Hoover and was an enthusiastic volunteer at local food pantry, Love in Action. A memorial / celebration of life service, respecting social distance guidelines, will be held June 13th, 2020, at 11:00 am, at First Baptist Church of Hoover, 2025 Patton Chapel Road, Hoover, AL 35216. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations may be made to First Baptist Church of Hoover.
