Carolyn Conwell

Carolyn Allen Conwell, beloved mother, sister and friend, was born December 11, 1945 in Tuscaloosa, Alabama to the late Eleanor Brown and Onner Lee Allen. She was the oldest of three children. Her mother died when she was very young, thus her maternal grandmother, Bessie McShan, raised her. She was raised in a Christian and nurturing home. Thus, at a young age, she received the Lord as her Savior and was baptized into the Baptist faith uniting with the Elizabeth Missionary Baptist Church in Tuscaloosa. Most recently, she attended the Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church in Brighton, Alabama, under the pastorate of the Reverend David A. Simpson. Carolyn was married to Robert E. Harris, and through this union she was blessed with her only child, a beautiful daughter, whom she named Sharon. Carolyn received her early education in the public schools of Tuscaloosa, and ultimately attended Druid High School. She was employed with Phifer Wire Products in Tuscaloosa during its infancy; now known as Phifer, Incorporated, an international company headquartered in Tuscaloosa. She later moved to Boston, Massachusetts, where she was employed with the telephone company; and later with Gillette from which she retired after several years of dedicated service. After her first retirement, she worked in the Brockton City Schools as part of its child nutrition personnel. She touched the lives of many people with her smile, generosity and her unmatched love for cooking. She had a willingness to share her passion for cooking, and was known for her pound cakes. Carolyn made life sweeter for everyone whose life she touched. Though shy and unassuming, she had a radiant smile that could pierce through the darkest places and a laugh that would warm your heart. Affectionately known by many simply as “Bay” or “Dear”, she was one of the most genuine people you could meet. She departed this life on Thursday, March 8, 2018, at Princeton Baptist Medical Center in Birmingham, Alabama. She was 72. Carolyn was preceded in death by her parents, grandparents and sister, Barbara Johnson of Chicago, Illinois. She leaves to cherish her memory a loving daughter, Sharon (LaBrose) Hedgemon of McCalla; a grandson, Christopher Williams; a brother, Charles Allen of Chicago, Illinois; and a host of nieces and nephews, cousins, other relatives and special friends. “I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith:
