Felton Mac Vaughn

Felton Mac Vaughn, 80, passed away on February 18th 2017 at his daughters home in Hayden, Alabama. He was born on February 4th, 1937 in Oneonta, Alabama to James Tyler and Willie Dessie (Mattox) Vaughan.Mac grew up playing in the woods hunting and fishing in Oneonta, Chepultepec now Allgood, and Mattawana Alabama.He graduated from Allgood high school. After high school he joined the Navy. He was stationed in Las Vegas Nevada and also served aboard the USS Kearsarge CVA-33. He served with distinction for four years 1954 to 1958 and received an Honorable discharge. After the Navy, he worked for U.S. Steel as a Millwright where he worked for 33 years until he retired.Mac married Mary in 1958 in Bessemer Alabama. They were happily married for 60 years. Mac in his early years was a member of Raimund Heights Baptist Church. He enjoyed being a Scout Leader for the Boy Scouts and a coach for little league baseball. Mac loved to go camping with the family at Wind Creek state park, teaching the kids to fish, water ski and drive a boat. He was an avid hunter taking the family on many hunting trips. He loved Daytona Beach Florida and just sitting on the beach watching the ocean. Mac was a skilled mechanic and could fix anything, he loved tinkering with cars or anything mechanical. He loved spending time with his family.Mac is survived by his spouse Mary of Bessemer Alabama; his sons Jim and Cindy of McCalla, Alabama, Jeff and Cheryl of McCalla Alabama, David and Sherri of Helena/daughter Angel and Patrick of Hayden, Alabama; His brother Willie Ray of Milton Florida.; his grandchildren; Cristi, Casi, JD, Sabrina, Julia, Adam, Monica, Felicia, Justine, Tyler, Isabelle ,Gabby, Briley ; and many great-grandchildren; his nephew George Watkins JR and many other relatives.Mac was preceded in death by his parents, James Tyler and Willie Dessie (Mattox) Vaughan.His brothers Ralph Leon, Lewis John, Lawson Dean, James Richard and Tommy Joe. His sisters Jenny Victoria, Virdie Lou, Vallie Mae, and Cora Lee. His grandson SPC Brian Alexander Vaughn, Nephews Kenneth Dean Vaughan and Mark Stanley Watkins, nieces, Vickie Bunn and Cindy Orange. A visitation will be held at McCalla Memorial Funeral Home 4780 Letson Farms PKWY McCalla, AL. from 5 to 7 pm, Tuesday 2-21-2017. The family will be greeting friends and relatives at that time. A funeral service will be held at McCalla Memorial Funeral Home Wednesday 2-22-2017 at 10 AM. Burial to follow funeral at The Alabama National Cemetery, 3133 HWY 119 Montevallo, Alabama 35115 at 2:45 PM.
