James Charles (JC) Rhodes

James Charles (JC) Rhodes of McCalla, Alabama entered the Kingdom of Heaven on February 23, 2025, after a brief illness. JC was born in Birmingham, Alabama on May 16, 1944. He was a graduate of Vincent High School and grew up in Sterrett, Alabama. “Jimmy” lost his father at the tender age of 12 and was key to the early support of his family. After high school, he joined the Navy and served his country with valor on the USS Saratoga (CV-60). As a natural salesman, JC found success working more than 50 years at Liberty National Life Insurance and Alfa Insurance. He loved talking to people and never met a stranger. He was a long-time member of Peoples Church in Hueytown, Alabama where he served the Lord and the congregation as Usher, Ordained Deacon and Chairman of the Board. In his spare time, he was an avid golfer and spent many leisurely days on the golf course. He also loved his side gig as the “Mini Donut/ Snow Biz Guy” at Tannehill Trade Days for many years. JC loved to travel and during his lifetime had the opportunity to visit many locations across the globe. However, his favorite spots were Gatlinburg, TN, where he spent his honeymoon, and his second home in Gulf Shores, Alabama. He loved to fish and could be found early in the morning surf fishing in front of his beach house there. He was a huge Alabama Football fan and in his later years enjoyed watching country western movies. During his life, Mr. Rhodes answered to many names but his most cherished were Daddy and Poppy. His wife, children and grandchildren feel so grateful for all the love and support that he provided to help ensure that they had the best in life. All who knew him will miss his kindness, wit and humor. We are assured by our faith that he is with his parents and his Lord. JC is preceded in death by his parents, James Russell Rhodes and Lucile Parker Rhodes. He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Judy Howard Rhodes and by his three children, David Rhodes (Jim), Brian Rhodes, and Lisa Marie Pate (Stephen) along with his three grandsons, Brady Rhodes, Parker Rhodes and Evan Pate, and by his sister, Alice Rhodes Dunlap. A funeral service will be held at McCalla Memorial Funeral Home on Wednesday, February 26. Visitation will be from 1:00PM to 2:00PM with the service afterward.
