Phoebe Ann Fagan

Phoebe Ann Fagan was gifted to the world on June 20th, 1951, and transitioned home to God on July 17th, 2025. The 5th child of 16 children, she was born from the beautiful union of Dan and Helen Fagan and remained a cherished blessing to her family and friends throughout her lifetime. Phoebe graduated in 1969 from Carver High School in Bessemer, Al. Afterwhich, she was accepted and progressed to Tuskegee Institute, where she earned her teacher’s certification and subsequently received the Bachelor’s of Science degree in early elementary education in 1975. Ensuing a few years of working two jobs: head-start in Birmingham, Al. during the day and the main branch of the United States postal service downtown Birmingham location at night, Phoebe returned to Tuskegee Institute and completed a master’s degree in early elementary education in May of 1985. After earning her masters degree, she obtained employment in the Bessemer City School system as an educator and worked tirelessly, faithfully, and noblely for decades. With 35 years of undaunted service to the children and families of Bessemer, Phoebe celebrated her life's calling as a teacher with an enormous smile upon becoming an esteemed retiree in 2018. Phoebe's life was filled with joy, love and laughter. Whether educating and caring for children on the Southside of Bessemer or serving her community in other honorable ways, she touched and changed the lives of nearly everyone she met. This includes family, friends , coworkers, and especially the kindergarten children of Hard Elementary school who were fortunate enough to have her as "their" teacher. Alhough Ms. Fagan was known as a stern teacher, the love she exuded and shared with each and every child will always be remembered. The legacy of Ms. Phoebe Ann Fagan will also forever live in her three children. She is loved, cherished, and survived by her eldest daughter, Kimberly Yvonne Fagan, her only son, Kelvin Dewayne Fagan and her baby girl, Keri Denise Mitchell. Additionally, she is survived by her son-in-law Ural Mitchell as well as the light of her legacy, her grandchildren: Reniya Trenise Kelly, and Landen Elias Mitchell. Phoebe was and will forever remain as a shining light for humanity. Although her bubbling and infectious personality have taken flight, she, most definitely, will never be forgotten.
