Roger Ray Martin

Our beloved husband, dad, pawpaw, and friend, Roger Ray Martin, age 75, passed away peacefully in his home on December 15, 2024, surrounded by his family. Born on July 24, 1949, Roger spent most of his life in the small town of Greenpond, Al, where he has left behind a feeling of love that can never be replaced. Roger was a man who touched our hearts and lives in ways that words can hardly express. He was a man of unwavering faith. He loved Jesus with all his heart, and his faith was a guiding light not only for him but for all of us. Roger loved to pray, whether it was holding hands for grace before a meal or a heart wrenching prayer with a grandchild, he did not let a day pass without telling God how grateful he was for the life and family he was given. He loved the Lord and his family as much as any man possibly could have. Now, let’s talk about Alabama Football! Roger was the biggest fan you could imagine. Saturdays in the fall were sacred; they were reserved for the Crimson Tide. Cheering, shouting, and sometimes fussing when things didn’t go our way, he had a way of turning a simple game into a full-blown family event. It wasn’t just about the sport; it was about the time spent together, the laughter, and the bonds we created while rooting for our team. The last and most admirable thing about Roger was his work ethic. That man was a hard worker! Whether it was completing a job or taking care of his family, he poured his heart and soul into everything he did. He showed us that hard work and dedication are how you achieve your dreams, but we also won’t forget how much Roger loved the casino! He loved the thrill of the game and the excitement of hoping for a win. He may have been the hardest working man we all have ever known, but he believed in a little fun too. Roger was preceded in death by his loving parents, Willie Ray and Betty Jean Martin; his beloved first wife, Dana Jill Martin (Granny); daughter, Amy Ray Martin; sister, Louise Martin; and brothers, Randy Martin, Robin Martin, and Roy Martin. He is survived by his loving wife, Hazel Jeanette Hopkins Martin; sister, Gloria Dean Gibson (James) daughters, Angelia Jill Martin (Jacob), Tera Pullen (Dorian) and Tammy Boyd (Robert); grandchildren, Alisha Martin, Shalee Gaytan (Alvaro), Brady Martin (Breanna), Sierra Martin, Robbie Fanning, Christian Walden, Kaleb Winfrey (Andrea), Hannah Walden Phillips (Mason), Tyler Winfrey, Josh Winfrey, and McKaylee Boyd; great-grandchildren, Ethan Martin, Emma Nolen, Cruz Gaytan, Evan Martin, Addelia Gaytan, Annalee Martin, Sawyer Brasher, Jack Fanning-Cooley, Kristlyn Walden, Spade Fanning, and Ace Phillips; his honorary brother and best friend, Thomas Jackson; along with a host of nieces and nephews.
