Ruby Clevenger Upton

Ruby Lee Clevenger Upton was a lovely, quiet lady whose demeanor was tender and welcoming. Her three children, six grandchildren, and five great grandchildren were God's greatest blessings in her life. She not only loved and enjoyed them and their accomplishments, but also delighted in sharing about them with others. Ruby lived in a picturesque little bungalow in the woods on a beautiful mountainside. There she worked in her yard, groomed and loved her flowers, and photographed them with enthusiasm. She had a God-given talent for painting landscapes as well as a "green thumb." Her photographs and paintings were a source of pride for her and treasured by those who received them. She is now praising her savior in heaven as is her only daughter, Carol, who went to be with the Lord not so very long ago. Ruby was the second daughter and fourth child of Eva Mae and Rubert Earl Clevenger, Sr., (both deceased) who were longtime residents of the McCalla area. She will be missed by her family and friends. Children: Carol Eve Upton Fowlkes (1952-2020) and her children: Jenna Lee Smith (husband Jason and children Jackson Wyatt and Walker Owen Smith), Daniel James Fowlkes (wife Christina and children James Whitman, Hensley Grey, and Josiah Marshall), and Leanne Owen Fowlkes; Philip Lyle Upton (wife Sue and daughter Laurel Lee Upton); and Bradford Reid Upton (wife Laura and children Mary Claire and Caroline Grace). Siblings: Rubert Earl Clevenger, Jr., (1926-2003), Bertha Mae Lybrand (1928-2020), Dr. Charles Edward Clevenger (Toni), Donald Wayne Clevenger (Susan), Larry Steve Clevenger (Barbara), and Garry Cleve Clevenger (Kay). A 1949 graduate of McAdory High School, Ruby grew up attending Loveless Park Baptist Church (now known as Grace Life) with her family. For years she was a regular member of Riverchase Methodist until in later life she chose to worship closer to home and settled in at Arnold's Chapel Methodist Church. Her friends and family brightened her life. Family will be receiving visitors at McCalla Memorial Funeral Home, 4780 Letson Farms Parkway, McCalla, AL 35111, at 10:00 AM on Saturday, December 10, with a Memorial Service following at 11:00 AM.
