Terry Lake Boyd

Terry Lake Boyd (87) of McCalla, Alabama passed away March 15, 2023 at Bibb Medical Center, Centreville, Alabama. He was preceded in death by his parents, James C. Boyd and Edythe M. (Forsche) Boyd, his wife of 53 years, Beverly A. (Wells) Boyd, and son Scott W. Boyd, and two brothers, James and David. He is survived by son Timothy L. Boyd, Sr. (wife Cheryl C. Marchant Boyd) Whitestown, Indiana, daughter Leslie A. Boyd, McCalla, Alabama, six grandchildren: Lalia C. Boyd Burke (Rudy), Carmel, Indiana, Laura R. Boyd Clark (Dustin), Elsmere, Kentucky, Timothy L. Boyd, Jr., Whitestown, Indiana, Leah M. Boyd, Accokeek, Maryland, Cassie L. Boyd Shuman (Eric), Port St. Joe, Florida, and Brittany J. Boyd Massey (Justin), Birmingham, Alabama, and three great grandchildren, Lily Burke, Theodore Clark, and Thaddeus Clark. Terry was born at Wheeling, West Virginia and graduated high school at Tridelphia High School in 1953. He dated a local sweetheart, Beverly A. Wells, and married May 9, 1959. They were blessed with three children, Scott (1960), Timothy (1962), and Leslie (1964). They resided in the town of birth until moving to Athens, Ohio (1972), Lamar, Arkansas (1978), Vance, Alabama (1980), and finally McCalla, Alabama (1985). Terry was employed at several local businesses until he was employed by Wheeling Water Works. Later, he entered the coal mining industry at Valley Camp Coal Company until assuming a managing position as maintenance foreman both underground and in the mechanical shop at Southern Ohio Coal Company, Meigs, Ohio in 1972. In June 1978 Terry moved his family to Lamar, Arkansas to assume the mining superintendent position at a coal mining operation at Clarksville, Arkansas. In 1980, he assumed a position at Jim Walter Resources in Brookwood, Alabama, and completed his working career at Trinity Industries in Bessemer, Alabama. Terry completed portions of college at West Liberty College in Wheeling, West Virginia and also at Ohio University, Athens, Ohio. But he was primarily a self- educated authority on many industrial aspects, including electrical, hydraulic, mechanical and pneumatic. His ability to craft and tinker devices was evident everywhere at his property. He was also exceptionally knowledgeable with organic gardening, natural health, and a wide range of botanical information. A time of visitation to receive loved ones and friends will be Monday, March 20 at 10:00 am, with a brief memorial service following at 11:00 am both at McCalla Memorial Funeral Home, McCalla, Alabama.
