Travis Jerrell Sanders

Travis Jerrell Sanders passed away peacefully on January 9th, 2026, surrounded by his daughters and loved ones. He was 89 years old. To some, he was a veteran. A man who proudly served his country and guarded secrets he would never tell. He would see a young woman while on leave, who would capture his mind and his heart. He and Margaret (Jeanne) Sanders would be married in 1956. He would continue on to stay in the service another two years, taking the sense of duty it instilled in him to build a new life for his new family. To others, he was a man of faith. His trust in the LORD only grew throughout his life; a comfort we find now, knowing that He is present and rejoicing at the face of God. While his absence is deep and profound, there is a great peace in knowing his new and perfect wholeness and his reunion with all those who have walked before him. To his family, he was a jokester. To walk into his home would be to hear his laughter, his endless stories, and maybe, if you were lucky, a surprisingly good Donald Duck impression. He was a man of devotion, of service, of duty, of endless kindness and deep, abounding love. My cousins, my brother, and I, we called him “Grandad” . Jerrell is survived by Chere Sanders Gillham, Jerri (Jack) McCombs, Kerri (Kevin) Bradford, Merri (Matthew) Pitman, 10 grandchildren (Shelly, Maria, Brandon, Brittney, Courtney, Kelsey, Cody, Caid, Zac and Cathy)) and 6 great-grandchildren (Jackson, John-Riley, Mary Margaret, Scarlett, Saylor, and Archer). He was preceded in death by his parents- Emory & Maeatres Sanders, wife- Margaret (Jeanne) Sanders, daughter- Terri (Cricket) Hurr, grandchild- Leslie Ann Robinson, and sister- Ann (Sanders) Ingram. A celebration of his life will be held on Sunday at 2pm at McCalla Memorial Funeral Home, visitation will be preceding at 1pm. Graveside service will be held at 2pm the following Tuesday at Pine Rest Memorial Park in Foley, Alabama. He will be laid to his final rest next to his bride.
