Treba Batson

Treba Lee Shuttlesworth Batson, 83, passed peacefully on August 3, 2026, in Hoover, Alabama. Her life was marked by unwavering love for her family, steadfast faith, and a kindness that touched all who knew her. Treba was born on September 26, 1942, in Birmingham, Alabama, and was raised in West Blocton by her loving parents, William Lonnie Shuttlesworth, Sr. and Jessie Fay Price Shuttlesworth, alongside her four siblings. It was there that she developed the strong values of faith, family, and service that would guide her throughout her life. On December 10, 1964, she married the love of her life, Donald Batson. Together they faithfully served the Lord while sharing nearly 60 years of marriage and building a home centered on Christ, family, and ministry. After Donald graduated from seminary, they spent a brief time living in Maryland before returning to Alabama, where they faithfully served churches and the communities they loved. Throughout her life, Treba's greatest calling was to faithfully follow Jesus Christ. Her relationship with the Lord was personal, steadfast, and unwavering. She prioritized daily time in God's Word and prayer, allowing her faith to shape every aspect of her life. Whether serving in ministry alongside Donald, teaching Sunday school, or caring for her family, she sought to reflect Christ's love in both word and deed. Treba devoted her professional life to caring for and helping others, working first as a preschool teacher and later as a mortgage loan underwriter. Beyond her career, she faithfully served alongside her husband throughout his years as a senior pastor. She had a heart for ministry and joyfully invested in others by teaching Sunday school and encouraging generations through her quiet faithfulness. Above all, Treba treasured being a wife and mother. She lovingly raised their two sons, creating a home filled with love, faith, and unwavering support. Treba was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Donald Batson, who passed away in 2024; her parents, William Lonnie Shuttlesworth, Sr. and Jessie Fay Price Shuttlesworth; her brother, William Lonnie Shuttlesworth, Jr.; and her sister, Charlotte Ann Shuttlesworth Collier. She is survived by her two sons, Paul Batson (Jen) and Marc Batson; her sister, Patricia Nix (Carl); her brother, Larry Douglas Shuttlesworth (Jeneane); her grandchildren, Marignima Bennet, Joshua Souane, Halle Fazekas, Katie Moore, Jacob Batson, Sawyer Batson, Marcie Batson, and Megan Batson; her great-grandson, Cooper Fazekas; and many cherished nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends whose lives were touched by her love and faith. Treba will be remembered for her kind heart, generous spirit, unwavering faith, and steadfast devotion to those she loved. She was loyal, compassionate, and found great joy in serving her family and others. Her faith in Jesus Christ was the foundation of her life. She treasured her daily time with the Lord, and her relationship with Him shaped the way she loved, gave, and lived. Nothing brought Treba more joy than spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She expressed her love through home-cooked meals, generous acts of kindness, and creating a warm, welcoming home where everyone felt cared for. She looked forward to holidays, treasured quality time with those she loved, and never passed up the opportunity to find a great bargain while shopping. She also enjoyed getting her nails done and having her hair done regularly by her sister, Charlotte. Treba leaves behind a legacy of generosity, strength, gentleness, and unwavering faith. Her life was a testimony to God's goodness, and her love for Jesus was evident in everything she did. Though she will be deeply missed, her family finds comfort in knowing she is now in the presence of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, reunited with her beloved husband, Donald, and rejoicing in the eternal joy she faithfully anticipated throughout her life. A visitation will be held on Monday, August 10, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. in the chapel of Hunter Street Baptist Church. A memorial service will follow at 2:00 p.m. at the same location, officiated by Pastor Brian Hinton. A graveside service will immediately follow the memorial service.
