Walter Carroll Andrews

Walter Carroll Andrews, age 80, of Bessemer, AL, passed away on August 24, 2026, surrounded by family. Born on April 24, 1946, in Washington, GA, he was the son of the late Thomas Wilton Andrews and Kathryn Burden Andrews. Carroll was preceded in death by his beloved first wife, Nancy Bell Andrews, with whom he shared 29 years of marriage and built a beautiful foundation for his family. Carroll was blessed to find love again and married Jann. Together, they created a warm home, uniting two families. He was a wonderful husband, son, brother, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend. He was a pharmacist for over 52 years. Over the course of his career, he owned Western Drug Company in Wylam, Alabama; served as a hospital pharmacist at Druid City Hospital in Tuscaloosa, AL; and occasionally worked as a relief pharmacist at CVS Pharmacy. Additionally, he was an ordained minister in the Methodist Church and served as pastor at Beverly United Methodist Church in Birmingham, AL; as an associate pastor at Aldersgate United Methodist Church in Birmingham, AL; and as an associate pastor at The Church at Ross Bridge in Hoover, AL. Carroll was a graduate of Lanett High School and Samford University, where he was a proud member of the Sigma Nu fraternity. His love for Samford continued throughout his life, and he remained a devoted fan of Samford football. Outside of work, he was an artist, pilot, sports reporter, musician, host of his own radio show on WBUL called “Ask the Pharmacist,” youth sports coach, proud member of The Gideons International, counselor, and Sunday School teacher. He was also a lover of fishing, woodworking, all seafood, history, playing his banjo, classic cars, ham radio, golf, working in his garden, and the Cincinnati Reds. As a man with so many talents and interests, his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren were what brought him the most happiness. He is survived by his wife, Jann Andrews; his sister, Helen Marie Andrews Ivey (Garve Jr.); his children, Kathryn Andrews Myrick (Michael) and Jonathon Carroll Andrews (Tana); his stepchildren, Ken Polk (Ashley), Judd Polk, and Jessica Polk; his grandchildren, Colby Bryan, Alexis Polk, Kasey Beck, Ellie Stein, Margaret Jirousek, Howell Polk, Karsen Andrews, and Mary Neale Polk; his great-grandchildren, Vivian and Amelia Strohmeier, and soon-to-be great-grandson, Archer Beck; his godchildren, Megan and Erik Brunsvold; and a large extended family of nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends. In addition to his first wife, Nancy Bell Andrews, and his parents, Thomas Wilton Andrews and Kathryn Burden Andrews, he was preceded in death by his brother, Perry Andrews; his aunt, Jacqueline Richardson; and his grandson, Jacob Polk.
